Intel buying Wind River

Intel is buying Wind River for more than $800 millions:

I think this is a great strategy from Intel to enforce its alliance with Wind River in the GENIVI Project and then paving way to Atom processors on the automotive industries.

Nowadays Intel is become an open source company (well, not too much, just like Sun was), this make me to remember Wind River has VxWorks RTOS, what if Intel open source it?

Well, I don’t really believe Intel will do that, because VxWorks generate more money to Wind River than Linux. It is improbably to happen but not impossible because Intel can try to use it as a way to enforce its image as an open source company.

In other hand opening VxWorks source code could to create more fragmentation to embedded Linux market besides Nokia doing it with Symbian.

Let the time show us the next chapter of this opera soup.
